Coco is a three-year-old Shepherd mix in Lake Forest, CA, who needs $2,000 for urgent tests.

Coco has been through many health issues in his young life, and now he's suffering from a respiratory illness that's stumping veterinarians.

"Coco's current health situation cannot be pinpointed," Maki L., Coco's human mom, tells Waggle. "As a puppy, he had Parvo. He has caught pneumonia more than three times, developed a persistent cough, and from time to time develops fevers. He's had a bronchoscopy, laryngoscopy, endoscopy, blood work, and several other tests, but each veterinarian we turned to could not figure out the root cause. X-rays typically show cloudiness in his lungs."

The medical team at VCA West Coast Specialty and Emergency Animal Hospital are on the case to unravel Coco's medical mystery. But Maki and her husband have spent so much on diagnostic tests for Coco their finances are tapped.

"My husband is the only one working, and we are living with a single income," Maki says. "Last year, my husband was unemployed due to a layoff, and Coco's vet
bills accumulated. The majority of Coco's bills were paid by credit card, and we have spent over $12,000 in veterinary care."

Coco means so much to Maki and her husband. "Coco is my best friend. He is the sweetest and most caring dog. Not too long ago, I moved to the U.S. from Japan, and my husband gave me Coco so I wouldn't feel lonely," Maki says.

He is the center of attention in their home. "Coco loves to sleep around and enjoys being in the sunlight when he naps. He loves to play with his many toys. Whenever we watch television, he loves to grab our attention by dropping a toy in front of us so that we can play with him. Together, we enjoy going on walks, going to the park, and going to the beach. We also love to car trips," Maki says.
