About this campaign
We adopted Cooper 3 years ago from Estherville shelter. The police rescued him from inside an abandoned bank where he had no food or water. Cooper still hasn’t overcome his separation anxiety, but that’s a work in progress.
We tried different names, but none fit. We also call him Cooper de Ville—the Cadillac of dogs! Cooper tolerates our cat, Mac, but treats him like an annoying kid brother.
Cooper adores his family. My mother and I are his caregivers, but his human brothers live nearby (one lives across the street). Cooper LOVES zoomies! We can’t wait until he is able to do that again. Cooper has his own double bed (w/ a therapeutic dog bed). He loves to argue, especially when we tell him no! He loves long walks outside and along the lake and woods at Moreau Park.
Cooper is part boxer, so he “slaps” at us, or raises his paw in the air to make his point. It’s actually really adorable! Now when we “argue,” I pretend to box with him, and he slaps that heavy paw at us.
Cooper is a beautiful soul. You can see the depths of his love and compassion in his deep brown eyes. I feel like the Grinch—everything Cooper does makes my heart grow three sizes!
Cooper needs immediate surgery on the cruciates in both knees and the canine stifles, the (knee) joints that consists of an articulation between the femur (thigh bone) and tibia (shin bone). We will do everything possible to save Cooper and give him the best quality of life imaginable.
Cooper’s surgery is about $10,000, plus follow-up care, like PT. My 80 y/o mother and I share an apartment. She’s retired and lives on social security; I’m disabled and live on disability, so we have limited incomes. To have Cooper healthy again would mean pure joy.
