About this campaign
Cyrus was rescued from a Southern California shelter 12 years ago as a puppy after being hit by a car, which left him with fractured hips and knees requiring orthopedic surgery and extensive rehabilitation. His recovery was very successful, and he has lived an active, happy life ever since. Cyrus is a handsome 13-year-old black and white pit bull–lab mix who is beloved by our family and our entire neighborhood. He is friendly with everyone and all dogs, big and small, whom he meets and has always been a gentle, happy presence on his daily walks. A few days ago, Cyrus suffered a sudden medical emergency and was hospitalized at VCA Animal Specialty Group in Los Angeles, CA. He has been diagnosed with Immune-Mediated Thrombocytopenia (ITP), a life-threatening condition in which his immune system is destroying his platelets. This caused uncontrolled internal bleeding and severe anemia. Cyrus is receiving intensive, around-the-clock care. So far, Cyrus’s emergency care has totaled approximately $12,000, with additional costs expected as he stabilizes and continues treatment. Our goal is $13,500 to help cover his ICU care, medications, monitoring, and the next phase of recovery for our beloved Cyrus.
