Dexter is a 7-year-old Shih tzu in Kalamazoo, MI, who needs $1,864 for ACL Surgery.

This is my baby Dexter. He came into my life 7 years ago. I was going through a horrible divorce after being married for 12 years. I was dealing with a controlling, verbally, and emotionally abusive husband. I needed Dexter. I adopted him as soon as I moved out of the home. Dexter became my support, my companion. Even as a baby, it’s like he knew from day one what I needed.

Dexter is the sweetest dog. He loves to make people happy. He has the sweetest eyes and the kindest most gentlest way of interacting with others. His tail is always wagging. He almost always rolls over for belly rubs because they’re his favorite.

Dexter’s favorite thing to do is play with a tennis ball. The second you even mention “where’s you ball?” Or “go get your ball” his face lights up, and his tail wags so fast. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen another dog so happy as Dexter when he gets to play with his tennis ball.

Unfortunately, yesterday while playing fetch with his tennis ball and running he hurt his hind left leg. After going to the vet, I found out he completely ruptured his ACL and needs surgery which will cost $1864.

I am currently disabled and don’t make more than $10,000 a year with no emergency funds. It breaks my heart to see Dexter like this. It would mean the world to me to be able to get him the surgery and be back chasing tennis balls again.
