Dexter officially belongs to my oldest son, but I have recently taken him in my son brought him home at just 9 weeks old, and now he is 7 and a half. He is family. Although he isn’t technically “my dog,” I am his person; he is always close to me; we understand one another. In July, Dexter began yelping in pain whenever I touched him. At first, the vet thought it was flea irritation, but after months of treatment, he still suffered. Then, in October, an emergency vet diagnosed him with vertebral disc disease and suggested surgery. However, no diagnostic testing has been done to verify that or determine the exact cause of his pain. The emergency vet put him on Carprofen and Gabapentin, and I see improvement in him. People have suggested I just put him down. I won't do that; he doesn't need to be put down. He needs medication or surgery. The diagnostic testing is crucial to us so that we may find out exactly what is going on, so that we can get started on a treatment plan or surgery. n He still has the energy to bring his ball to play fetch even if he can't do it as often as before. I admire his playful spirit, but it breaks my heart to see him in pain and unable to play like he used to. This has left him confused and sad. I know he wants to be back to himself as much as i do. Anything you can donate I will be forever grateful for so that we can get this testing done and find out what is going on so that. We can get them on a treatment plan or surgery.
