Dexter is a 8-year-old German Shepherd in Terra Alta, WV, who needs $2,000 for Spleen Removal Surgery.

Dexter is more than just a rescue dog; he's a true worker and protector of his family. After being adopted three years ago, Dexter has become an irreplaceable family member. He's a natural caretaker, always eager to help with looking after the chickens, goats, etc. Dexter's gentle nature and kind spirit have also made him a favorite in the community just ask Lowes in Oakland MD!

Dex is a delightful pup who enjoys playing fetch and hide-and-seek with his rubber piggie from Walmart. He sleeps by the door to feel the cool breeze and loves camping in his pup tent or camper. Swimming and chasing rabbits are his favorite pastimes. Once he recovers from the health crisis and passes his TDI test, he'll be able to visit facilities and provide comfort to others and make them smile

After surgery, Dexter will work to join Therapy Dogs International which is a volunteer organization dedicated to regulating, testing, and registering therapy dogs and their volunteer handlers for the purpose of visiting nursing homes, hospitals, schools, other facilities. Dexter is very patient and gentle with kids and the elderly. He brings smiles to faces. He always draws a crowd of admirers!

Our veterinarian is recommending the removal of Dexter's spleen. It is enlarged and he states "It is a ticking time bomb as it may rupture at any time". We can not allow Dexter to suffer from abdominal pain and possibly face a splenic bleed. Beyond this issue with his spleen, he is happy, healthy and agile. Dexter is 8.

Dexter's bill will be around $3000. Have emergency funds of $1000 and need help with $2000 as I am a semi-retired healthcare worker, widowed, and on a part-time income. Dexter is my home protector, alarm system, livestock guardian, staunch travel companion, and loyal friend.
