About this campaign

D&A Animal Rescue needs your help for a sweet, heartbroken dog named Dixie. Just the other day, a man came to D&A's door asking if he could take an old plastic crate they had thrown away. When they asked him what he needed it for, he told them something that shattered their hearts: he planned to use it to dump a dog. That dog? Dixie.

Dixie is a gentle, loving Doberman, but she’s been through far too much. She’s already had a litter of puppies, and sadly, he’s given them all away. Now, she’s left behind, underweight, with pale gums, still producing milk, and desperately in need of care.

D&A needs your help to provide Dixie with the medical attention she needs. She requires spaying to prevent further litters, and she needs her basic vaccinations to stay healthy and safe. The cost to get her vaccinated and spayed will be at least $500, and that doesn’t even include the additional care she might need.

Dixie deserves a chance at a healthy, happy life. She deserves a family who will love her and care for her properly. Please, consider donating to help Dixie during her recovery.

Update 4/29/25:
Dixie went to the vet to be spayed and during surgery, the vet discovered a mammary mass. They immediately removed it and sent it to pathology. D&A Animal Rescue is now anxiously awaiting results to find out whether it’s benign or something more concerning. As if that wasn’t enough, Dixie's tests also came back positive for heartworm—a diagnosis no one ever wants to hear.

When the D&A Team went to pick her up, Dixie was in pain from the surgery, clearly uncomfortable… and yet, this incredible girl still wagged her tail when she saw them. That’s the kind of spirit Dixie has—resilient, loving, and full of hope, even when life throws the hardest challenges her way.

Update 5/6/25:
We’re thrilled to share that Dixie has made a full recovery from her spay surgery and the removal of her tumor — and even better, the tumor was benign!

Now, Dixie is ready to tackle the next critical phase of her healing journey: heartworm treatment. This treatment is essential to give her a healthy, happy future, but it comes with a large cost. Dixie still needs your support to complete her treatment and finally get the all-clear on her health.

Update 9/9/25

Dixie is doing well and still learning how to trust fully. She gets along with other dogs and with people but is easily scared. In addition to her vetting, we are working on socializing her and working on improving her trust.
