Dodge Is Just a Puppy—But He’s Battling a Life-Threatening Wound

Dodge is just a puppy—but he’s already endured more pain than any young dog should ever have to face. Found as a stray, Dodge was brought to Baw Baw Animal Welfare in heartbreaking condition. Despite everything, he remained bright, alert, and responsive, even managing to eat and stand with support. His resilience is incredible—but his little body is fighting a serious and painful infection.

Dodge arrived with a severe wound near the base of his tail that had been left untreated for 2–3 weeks. The injury had become infected with maggots and was oozing pus, causing immense discomfort and putting him at risk for further complications.

Our veterinary team immediately stepped in to help. Dodge’s wound has been carefully drained and cleaned, and he is receiving ongoing treatment including antiseptic care, medicated applications, and antibiotic injections to fight the infection. His recovery will require continued medical attention, wound management, and close monitoring to ensure proper healing.

Even through his pain, Dodge has shown nothing but strength and a gentle spirit. He deserves the chance to grow up healthy, safe, and loved—not suffering on the streets.

5/7/26 Update

Dodge continues to make encouraging progress in his recovery journey!

His back wound is healing well, and we are so relieved to see this brave puppy becoming more comfortable each day. Dodge is now actively present in our sanctuary, enjoying the safety, care, and love he always deserved.

We’re happy to report that his appetite and water intake are normal, and he is urinating and defecating regularly — all very positive signs that his little body is responding well to treatment. Our team is continuing his medications, wound care, and ongoing monitoring to make sure his healing stays on track.

After everything Dodge endured alone on the streets, seeing him rest peacefully and regain his strength means the world to us. He still has a road ahead, but he’s proving every day just how resilient he is.

We are beyond grateful to share that Dodge has continued to make incredible progress in his recovery journey thanks to your compassion and support. This sweet puppy, who was once suffering alone with a severe infected wound, is now safe, healing, and finally getting the chance to simply be a happy puppy.

Dodge’s wound has continued to improve with ongoing treatment, medications, and daily care. His infection is under control, his appetite remains strong, and he is growing more comfortable and playful each day. Watching him rest peacefully, wag his tail, and enjoy affection after everything he endured has been truly emotional for our team.
