Recently, Doon’s world has shifted again. It started with a swelling in his cheek. At first, we hoped it was a simple sting from a bee. But the reality is much heavier. Beneath his gentle gaze, Doon has been carrying a secret pain. Dr. Parkis at Integrative animal health informed us that his mouth is has some bad teeth that are possibly infected and threatening bone loss. We took Doon to a veterinary dentist in Boxboro who confirmed the diagnosis and gave us a quote for the work.
The most heartbreaking part is his silence. Because of his anxious nature, Doon is an expert at hiding his pain. He doesn't complain; he just continues to be our friendly dog, even as infection has seeped into his mouth and bone loss looms.
