On my birthday, July 2020 my granddaughter Caty convinced me to get a dog. I'd been thinking about for a long time. I was a pretty chipper 74 year old.
At the shelter I was overwhelmed at my attraction to litter of mixed breed terriers, 9 weeks old. There were 5 of 9 left. Never having raised dogs before, I chose 2. This was going to be fun.
I was really excited when I got Doug and Randy home.

I couldn't go 6 mo. w/o some diseaster. Stone swallowed, Intestine disorder( both dogs) tooth extraction (Doug "baby tooth"did not come out). I've spent thousands at VCA Flannery.
In 2024 Doug tore up his leg (tech jargon) "stifle effusion & degenerative joint disease w?disuse muscle atrophy to right pelvic limb".
I was ref to Hudson Highlands VMG Consult & pre-op $498. Tibial Plateau Surg. $5824.

These dogs have become my babies. I live alone so I have them to come home to. I live in a mobile home at the edge of the park, so these dogs are gifted with a huge backyard in which to run.
I spend lots of hours doing meal prep. Only fresh meats and veg. They literally my family.

I didn't realize the cost of owning dogs. I am broke. I'm 78 yrs. old. No pension. Live on S.S. and part-time schoolbus driving. Right now my only goal is to get Doug well. He is such a lovable guy.
He's on pain med., but he's only a shadow of what he was.
