About this campaign
After our English Mastiff, Sugar, died, I didn't want another dog. My heart was broke but my husband insisted that we needed another dog and had already spoken for Duke. He tricked me into going and seeing him and when I picked him up he snuggled right into my coat. He wouldn't let me go!
Duke began having collapsing spells shortly after we had him neutered at 2 years old. It took Duke over a week to recover from the procedure because one testicle had not dropped. When his spells became more persistent we took him to K-State Veterinary Hospital and he was diagnosed with 2nd Degree AV Block, Atropine Responsive. We were told that he would need a pacemaker to keep him alive.
Duke is one big goofy baby! He is always smiling. He hates water but loves to wade in rivers. He loves everyone. He is a big scaredy cat with a large bark! He will hide behind you and bark. He loves to ride in the car and side-by-side on the trails. He goes with us everywhere. He is a constant companion to my husband. He loves drive-thrus but not banks as they don't give him the good stuff.
My husband is disabled and we live mainly on my income. The cost of a pacemaker/surgery for a large dog is about $10000 barring no complications. The thought of losing Duke at such a young age causes me to cry all of the time. He is my emotional support.
