Emma is a seven-year-old Labrador in Granby, MA, who needs $1,000 for leg surgery.

It all started when Emma cried out from the backyard in pain. "She was out there trotting along, and my son heard her yelp, and her leg went up in the air," Jean M., Emma's human mom, tells Waggle.

Jean hustled Emma over to her veterinarian's office immediately. They tried treating her with anti-inflammatories for a bit. When those didn't help, Jean and Emma returned to the animal hospital. "She couldn't put any weight on her leg at all," Jean says. That's when they found out she has a complete tear in the ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) in one of her knees. Now Emma needs pricey surgery to fix it.

The medical team at Wilbraham Animal Hospital is ready to take the case, and Jean and her family are desperately trying to raise the money they need for Emma's care. Jean's husband was laid off due to COVID, and their family is just starting to get back on track financially. Emma also was extremely sick with another illness recently, she's fully recovered now, but her emergency care cost $4000.

Until Emma can have the surgery, she's still limping in pain. "It's heartbreaking she just looks at you. She's just mopey. I don't know if it's depression or she knows she can't do the things she used to do," Jean says.

Emma is a huge part of Jean's family. They adopted her when she was a puppy when her prior owner could not keep her any longer and posted her on Craigslist. Jean has two human sons and says Emma is her only girl. "When she entered our home, our hearts turned to mush. She was the one thing we were missing, and when she arrived, she completed our family. She is my princess. She will lick you until she can't anymore. She sleeps with mom and dad."

Jean is hoping Lab lovers can help them help Emma pull through this surgery and go on to live an extraordinary life with her family that loves and adores her. "Any bit would be much appreciated, and we would be so grateful."
