About this campaign
Ferguson’s story began on Christmas Eve, when he was rescued by Compassionate Animal Rescue Efforts from a rural area in Oklahoma after being abandoned. Despite everything he’s been through, Ferguson is incredibly loving, well-mannered in the home, and gets along beautifully with other dogs and cats. He has so much joy to give—and he deserves a life where he can fully enjoy it.
Sadly, Ferguson is living with the effects of an old injury that was never treated. At some point, his front left leg was broken and left to heal improperly. Now, the lower portion of his leg points outward, causing him ongoing pain. He currently relies on daily medication to stay comfortable, but it’s not enough to give him the active, happy life he should have.
Ferguson is still young and eager to run, play, and go on walks—but right now, every step is a struggle. The surgery he needs, called a wedge resection, will correct the alignment of his leg. This procedure involves removing a small wedge of bone, realigning the leg into a more natural position, and stabilizing it with a bone plate as it heals. While this won’t reverse existing arthritis in his wrist, it will significantly improve his comfort and mobility, allowing him to move through life with far less pain. It will also allow him to put weight equally on both of his shoulders, helping his overall frame to be more stable and less wear on his left side.
The estimated cost for Ferguson’s care includes:
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\- $2,500–$3,000 for surgery - $1,000 for a CT scan - Additional funds for medications, bandage changes, and post-operative care
We are hoping to raise $5,000 to ensure Ferguson gets everything he needs for a successful recovery. Ferguson has already shown how resilient and loving he is. Now, he just needs a chance to heal. Your support can help give him that chance—to run, to play, and to finally live the pain-free life he deserves.
4/13/26 Update: Ferguson needs leg surgery
Ferguson has finally settled into his foster home after 3 and a half months, and it's like he has always been there! He lives with his foster mom, two cats and three dogs but he’s always the first to alert his foster mom when someone is outside.
Ferguson is still learning to trust new people. He’s especially cautious around men, which suggests he may not have been treated kindly in the past. With patience and of course, plenty of Pup-Peroni treats, he is making progress. When his foster mom’s parents visited, it took time, treats, and a few soft head rubs, but he eventually warmed up to both of them. Moments like these show just how much he wants to trust again.
Like all C.A.R.E. dogs, he was vaccinated and heartworm tested within a few days after his rescue and has been on Sentinel Trio ever since. He also takes Rimdyl and canine beef bone broth powder for arthritis, Apoquel for pollen allergies, and Native Pet skin supplement and salmon dog food for sensitive skin.
Since his arrival he has learned to like beef and salmon treats, although peanut butter flavor is still not to his liking. His white coat doesn’t stay white for long as he loves to roll around in the grass on his back! Luckily, he’s willing to take a bath even if he doesn’t enjoy it. He goes into a crate for dinner and to take his time enjoying dog bones, but if his foster sister Cocoa finishes hers first he always lets her steal his too!
He has been a true delight to his foster mom and is expected to be the perfect recovery patient after surgery. To help control his urge to run after surgery, a martingale collar has been added to our wish list along with bones to keep him occupied during the many weeks he will be crate bound (His crate is an extra large 48 inch crate with a stainless steel water pail inside) as well as a bed to keep him comfortable.
If Ferguson could talk he would tell you he is very grateful for your donations. It is very obvious that he has been so grateful to have a nice, safe home with a loving foster mom, food every day, yummy treats, and nice foster siblings to play with!
4/26/26 Update: Ferguson Needs Leg Surgery
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has donated toward Ferguson’s surgery. Your support truly means everything. Because the vet requires full payment immediately after the procedure, Ferguson is patiently waiting as we work together to reach the remaining goal.
In the meantime, he has been making the most of the warm weather, spending his days stretched out on the back porch, soaking up the sun and watching the world go by. In the evenings, he has started climbing onto the bed for plenty of head and chest rubs before settling into his chair for the night. If you stop petting him too soon, he gently places his paw on your arm as if to say, “More, please.”
Around the house, Ferguson likes to stay close without being in the way. He rests on his dog bed or lies just behind his foster mom’s chair so he can keep an eye on everything. As he prepares for surgery, he has also begun spending time in his crate, which is always left open. It has become his safe space, something he may not have ever truly had before.
His foster mom has loved watching him grow more comfortable and at home with each passing day. It is heartbreaking to think that such a gentle, well mannered dog was left without care after his leg was broken and later abandoned. Despite everything, his sweet nature shines through. He can still be a bit cautious around men, possibly connected to his past injury. We may never know.
What matters most is that Ferguson is now safe and he knows it.
Thank you for helping us give him the second chance he deserves.
6/4/26 Update
Ferguson continues to make incredible progress in his foster home, and for the first time in a long time, he truly feels like he belongs.
After months of settling in and learning that he is safe, Ferguson recently reached a major milestone. One morning, his foster mom woke up to find him sleeping peacefully next to her pillow, curled up in bed alongside her personal dogs. At 80 pounds, Ferguson somehow managed to climb into bed without waking anyone. His foster mom only discovered him there when she opened her eyes and found him happily snoozing beside her.
While he had occasionally laid on the bed for short periods before, he would always get down whenever the other dogs moved around. This time was different. Ferguson decided he was finally home.
Unfortunately, while Ferguson's heart is healing, his leg still needs help.
His surgery has not yet been scheduled because we are still working to raise the funds needed to move forward. Every day, Ferguson continues to live with the effects of the old injury that was never properly treated. Although medication helps manage his discomfort, surgery remains the best option to improve his mobility, reduce his pain, and give him the active life he deserves.
We are so grateful for everyone who has donated so far. Your support has brought Ferguson one step closer to the care he needs. However, we have not yet reached our goal, and we still need help to ensure his surgery can be scheduled.
Please consider making a donation and sharing Ferguson's story. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings him closer to a future where he can run, play, and enjoy life without pain.
6/30/26 Update: Total of 5K needed before Vet will perform surgery
Every day, Ferguson lives with pain as he waits for the surgery that could change his life.
The orthopedic surgeon at Catoosa Small Animal Hospital believes surgery is the best option for Ferguson, but it cannot be scheduled until the full cost has been raised. Unfortunately, the hospital cannot wait months for payment.
As a small rescue, we stretch every dollar to care for the animals already in our program. Donations we receive help cover essential expenses like vaccinations, heartworm prevention, food, and routine veterinary care for our many foster dogs. A $5,000 surgery for one dog would consume a large portion of our annual budget.
Oklahoma continues to face an overwhelming homeless pet crisis, with shelters and rescues operating at or beyond capacity. We never want financial limitations to determine whether a dog receives the care they need, but we simply cannot afford this surgery on our own.
In the ten years our rescue has been helping animals, we've never had to ask for assistance through Waggle. We've also never had a dog whose medical needs required such an expensive procedure. Today, we're asking for help because Ferguson deserves the chance to live without constant pain.
When Ferguson was a puppy, his injured leg was never properly treated. Now, at 80 pounds, his damaged front leg can no longer support his weight. According to his veterinarian, amputation is not the best option because front legs bear most of a dog's weight, especially in a dog his size.
For now, Ferguson relies on daily pain medication just to stay comfortable. Despite everything, he remains an incredibly sweet, gentle, and easygoing dog. He would love nothing more than to enjoy long walks and simply be a dog, but the pain makes that impossible. This surgery would give him that opportunity.
Please consider helping Ferguson receive the care he so desperately needs. Every donation, no matter the amount, brings him one step closer to a life without pain. If you're unable to donate, sharing his story can make a meaningful difference.
