Gidget is a 8-year-old Rat terrier in Vance, AL, who needs $2,000 for Bilateral Cataract removal .

My son gave Gidget to us 8 years ago when she was 6 weeks old. I love her so much. She's a 4- legged human to me. Gidget is so sweet, loyal, and smart. She was a clingy needy puppy but only to me her human mom. She moped and would not eat if I left her at home by herself. So I took her every where I could even riding on the motorcycle. But later I learned that I was the 1 who needed her.

Gidget loves kids. She catches lightning bugs with the older kids. I guess Gidget feels like she raised the 7 year old grandchild she has known since he was born. She quickly learned toddlers pinch. So she played with him at arms reach fetching his toys until she felt he was old enough to pet her. Gidget gets so excited just hearing his name.

My husband has not been able to work often due to serious medical problems. Therefore we can't afford her surgery. Gidget lays around now due to loss of vision. She has eye drops for pain for now. It would mean the world to me to have my active companion back free of pain.

Gidget developed diabetes 2 years ago. The diabetes has been controlled. But it caused cataracts. The cataracts have rapidly developed the past few months. Cataracts not only causes blindness but they cause fluid retention in the eyes which is very painful. The only doctors that perform this surgery are specialist. Dr. Susan Nelms at Veterinary Eye Care in Bessemer, Al. will perform the surgery.

Gidget's hobbies are chasing squirrels, chipmunks, and lizards. She used to frog hunt to play leap frog until we found out some frogs are poisonous. I enjoy hunting critters with her. My job is chasing the chipmunks out of their hiding places so she can chase them. I catch the lizards or push them towards her so she can chase them. Critter hunting with her relieves a lot of stress for me.
