When Ginger showed up on a family's property in Colony Ridge in Liberty County, Texas he was clearly in desperate need of help.
He was weak, extremely thin, and struggling to breathe. With the family preparing to leave town and no local shelter available to take cats, they were running out of options.
They were considering having Ginger euthanized.
Thankfully, they reached out before that decision was made. Poofer's Place stepped in and gave this sweet boy the chance he desperately needed. Instead of losing his life because there was nowhere else for him to go, Ginger is now safe and receiving the veterinary care and supportive treatment he needs.
His condition is serious, and his recovery will take time. But Ginger is fighting, and Poofer's Place is determined to give him every opportunity to regain his strength and find out what kind of future is possible for him.
Caring for a cat who arrives this sick comes with significant veterinary expenses, and Poofer's Place cannot do it alone.

We are heartbroken to share that Ginger passed away unexpectedly this morning.
We were so hopeful after seeing some improvement with treatment and truly believed he was headed in the right direction. Sadly, that wasn't the outcome.
Thank you to everyone who donated, shared, and cared about Ginger. Because of you, he spent his final weeks safe, loved, and receiving the medical care he deserved. We are grateful he did not have to face his last days alone. 🧡🐾🌈

This sweet boy came to us from Colony Ridge after showing up at a woman's home looking for help. He is one of the sweetest cats we've ever met, and right now he needs all the support he can get.
He is FIV-positive, severely underweight, weak, malnourished, and has nystagmus (abnormal eye movements). After recently losing his appetite, we took him back to the veterinarian for more testing.
His bloodwork showed severe anemia and an elevated white blood cell count, meaning his body is fighting something. We don't have all the answers yet, but we know he is very sick and needs ongoing care.
The good news is that over the last few days, he has started to show some improvement. He is sitting up on his own, much more alert, and overall just looks brighter and more comfortable. While he still has a long road ahead of him, we're hopeful and encouraged by the progress he's making.
We're doing everything we can to help him regain strength and stay comfortable. If you'd like to help with his veterinary expenses, we would be incredibly grateful. Donations, shares, and positive thoughts all make a difference. 💙

Ginger had his first veterinary visit at Big Thicket Veterinary Clinic, where he was estimated to be around 3 years old and weighed just 5.6 pounds.
His condition is more serious than we'd hoped. In addition to being severely underweight and dehydrated, Ginger has significant muscle wasting in his back legs, intestinal worms, and a serious upper respiratory infection.
The veterinary team also collected a blood sample to test for FeLV, since they were out of traditional SNAP tests. We're now waiting for those results, which will give us more information about Ginger's overall health and help guide his care moving forward.
For now, Ginger is receiving supportive care while his little body works to regain its strength. He's spending time in our oxygen chamber and receiving antibiotics, fluids, good nutrition, and plenty of TLC.
There are still many questions about what Ginger has been through and what lies ahead, but we're giving him the care and support he needs while we wait for answers.
