About this campaign
Gordie's mom rescued him when he was just a tiny puppy. Now he's grown into a 120-pound pooch who is full of pure energy and joy. But his spunk and size have been tough on his joints. Gordie needed one surgery to have a ruptured ligament repaired on his leg. And then, lightning struck twice; he needs the TPLO surgery on another leg.
"Due to his size and the type of procedure, this has to be done at Kansas State University Veterinary Health Center. If it is left untreated, Gordie will no longer be able to walk. He responded very well to the first surgery, unfortunately, did not beat the odds of having the same issue on the other leg," his human mom, Breana T., tells Waggle.
The stakes are dire, and Breana is having a tough time paying for his second operation. "Gordie's first surgery cost over $8,000 after travel expenses, pre and post-surgery treatments, and physical therapy," she says. "He is on pain meds, but he has not been himself since the pain started."
Gordie loves everyone he meets. Throughout his life, he's brought smiles to hundreds of people. He can sense when people are injured, sad, or just having a rough day and will always come to give you a big lick across your entire face. He protects the house from all things that shouldn't be there, from the squirrel or rabbit in the yard to a leaf blowing across the driveway; he will let you know. "His name comes from my love of hockey, the Red Wings, and Mr. Hockey himself, Gordie Howe. He has always been a joy to have and wrangle around," Breana adds.
Breana says all she wants is for Gordie to have his surgery and get on the road to recovery, "Please help Gordie get back to normal!"
