Gracie is a 9-year-old Pit Bull Terrier/Mastiff mix in Manteca, CA, who needs $1,500 for heartworm treatment.

I have been a part of Gracies life since she was 4 years old. She was my boyfriends dog when we go together. I have loved this dog as my own since day one, and have considered her my own. She has been the best dog I’ve ever had. In 2017, my boyfriends ex found out where we lived and stole the dog from our backyard while we were at work. The police were least helpful as it was a “civil matter” and needed to be handled in “civil court”. We came to an agreement that at any point, if she could not afford to take care of Gracie, she needed to give her back. Last month, the family of the ex reached out to us to inform us that Gracie was diagnosed with heartworm. Even though Heartworm is uncommon in CA, we still kept her on preventative, but during her time with the ex, she did not have any vaccines done or preventative medicines. The ex’s family returned Gracie to us, as they did not want to deal with treatment. Our household feels 100x more complete now that Gracie is home.
