About this campaign

When Benjamin V. comes home from work, he looks forward to dinner with his cats. And his cats do too! They run after him, excited to eat -- especially Grandpa. But recently, when Benjamin went to feed Grandpa, he wasn't himself.

"Grandpa was lying down in one of his beds, and he didn't get up to eat," Benjamin tells Waggle. "Usually, when I clank the bowls, he jumps up. I went over and said, 'What's the matter, buddy?' Then I saw this bump on his body, and I felt this lump. I showed my wife, and she gasped. There was a huge gash and hole in his leg!"

They could not figure out what in the world happened to Grandpa, but it was clear he needed help right away. Benjamin raced Grandpa to AM PM Ideal Pet Care. "I was worried," Benjamin says.

The medical team gave Grandpa emergency care, cleaned his wounds, sutured them shut, and administered IV fluids and antibiotics. Everyone was scratching their heads, wondering, what happened to Grandpa?

When the pair returned home from the animal hospital, Benjamin saw his neighbor who told him some shocking news: A hawk attacked Grandpa!

"My neighbor said a hawk had a pigeon in my yard and was killing it. My cats attacked the hawk, and the hawk flew away," Benjamin says. "Grandpa was the first one out there. He got clawed by the hawk. I'm dumbfounded by the whole thing."

Benjamin is an avid cat rescuer. Grandpa is one of many he has saved over the years. When Grandpa first arrived at Benjamin V.'s house, the cat knew he was home. "Grandpa came to my house and didn't leave," Benjamin says. "My other adopted cats tried to keep him away. He didn't pay any attention to them. After the second day of not leaving my property, I fed him, and my other cats accepted him. I picked him up, and he melted in my arms."

Back then, Benjamin brought Grandpa to the veterinarian for care and got him neutered. Grandpa soon became a member of the family. Benjamin tells Waggle he loves rescuing the cats, but his wife is starting to get a little miffed. "In the last 2-3 years, I've spent about $20,000 on these cats. My wife is not happy with how much I've spent. She will say, 'Who is it going to be? The cats or me?' We'll joke around, and I'll say 'the cats.'"

Grandpa's medical bill from the hawk encounter put Benjamin further in the dog house. So he created this Waggle campaign hoping people might give to help Grandpa. "Thank you to anyone who donates," he says. "My wife hasn't been working much. I have nine rescued cats and one that needs special food. I just need some help. The bill was over $1300. God bless Grandpa, and God bless anyone who gives."

Can you help Grandpa recover from his close call? And help Benjamin get out of the dog house?
