September 2020, my mom and I packed up the van with Zimmerman, Blue, and Hashtag to drive to Indiana for the adoption of Groot. My mom was a marvel fan, and was fond of Groot. The name fit perfectly once it was mentioned. Blue & Hashtag passed in 2021 and we adopted Rocket, the smallest & fastest golden retriever. Groot also has three sister cats, that were mine originally.

University of Minnesota Veterinary Medicine - Lewis Small Animal Hospital (St Paul, MN). August 11, 2025 the orthopedic consult showed Groot needs a Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) on his right knee and eventually his left. A brief neurology exam showed nerve involvement in his sciatica/spine that may be the cause of extreme pain in left leg.

He's always been our talkative, mischievous, yet gentle soul. He's supervises the cooking and eating, barks at the all people, and talks his way into extra treats and pets. Without ever being asked, he's instinctively become our family's emotional support dog, knowing when a hug is exactly what's needed. Although he often mistakes laughter for crying, & you get a 100-pound hug either way.

The passing of my mom took two incomes down to one & I became head of household on a modest income. I took out a mortgage to finance home repairs and funeral expenses but also paid for emergency/specialty vet visits, surgeries, and routine diagnostics. Resources are depleted
