Hank’s Face Was Swollen & His Body Scarred

We wish Hank could share his heartbreaking story of survival with us. He appeared in a cat colony in Paterson, his face severely swollen. Friendly and far too docile to fend for himself, Hank was likely abandoned on the streets and left to suffer. By the time he was picked up and brought to animal control, he was weak, in pain, and desperately waiting for proper care.

Overnight, his condition worsened. The abscess on his face ruptured at animal control. When RBARI arrived the next day, Hank was in heartbreaking sight—hurting, covered in old wounds and scars, but still so sweet, still purring as he sought affection. Now safe with RBARI, Hank is finally receiving the care he has gone without for far too long.

But his journey is far from over. In addition to the ruptured abscess, this poor guy is FIV positive and has serious kidney disease. He’s begun treatment and will need ongoing veterinary care in the days ahead. Hank is only about 6 years old—but his body bears the weight of a much harder life.

This rescue is happy to share that Hank is successfully on the road to recovery after receving proper treatments and care. He has a soft bed, full meals, and the second chance he’s always deserved. His journey is a powerful reminder of the lifesaving work happening every day for animals in our local community.
