About this campaign
Hans comes from a shelter in South west Texas. He was saved from euthanasia by a local rescue who got Hans neutered and ready to transfer to a home or another rescue. He came to Cat Allies of Texas Rescue in excellent health and a very loving and friendly young cat. Hans needed a rabies vaccination and while there was given an examination. However withing 24 hours of the vaccination, he was vomiting so violently, that it injured his esophagus. The irritation caused bleeding and continued vomiting. On a Friday, Hans was rushed to Canyon City Animal Hospital where a sonogram revealed enlarged kidneys. His kidney blood-work values were off the chart as well. I feared he would be lost to this illness. But, the vomiting and nausea was brought under control and he was put on IV. On Saturday, another scare as he spiked an 104 fever. Thankfully, thanks to the wonderful staff of Canyon City Animal Hospital, Hans began to get the upper hand and improved rapidly Saturday afternoon and Sunday. He remained on IV and hospitalized for 3 days, but Monday Hans came home and his loving personality has also returned. He is eating and resting comfortably and will make a full recovery. It is unknown what triggered the violent illness, but his shelter paperwork indicates that he was accidentally vaccinated several times in a short period of time. Perhaps his body rebelled at the final vaccine given.
