About this campaign
At just 4–5 months old, Harley should have been chasing toys and learning about the world. Instead, she was battling a painful abscess on the side of her neck and struggling to survive on her own.
Kind park feeders brought her to the shelter, where she began treatment. But when her abscess ruptured and her medical needs became more extensive, she was placed on the euthanasia list. That’s when This is Houston stepped in.
Harley was immediately transferred to an emergency vet for urgent care. Her abscess was flushed, she was started on IV fluids and strong antibiotics, and bloodwork revealed she was anemic. Thankfully, she did not require a transfusion, but she needed close monitoring and overnight hospitalization before heading to foster care.
And then something beautiful happened. One of of foster's kids had requested a “large brown puppy,” and we were more than happy to make that wish come true. Harley walked straight into a safe home, a warm bed, and a person ready to love her through recovery.
Her first night home? She slept through the night and kept her kennel spotless. Such a good girl. She still has some swelling as demodex mites die off, a bit of eye discharge, and a drainage hole from the abscess — possibly from a puncture wound or bite. The good news is the drainage is clear, which is exactly what we want to see. She returns to the vet tomorrow to recheck her anemia levels and ensure she’s continuing to improve.
Harley is safe. But she is not out of the woods yet.
Emergency hospitalization, diagnostics, medications, follow-up care — it all adds up quickly. We stepped in to save her life, and now we need your help to carry her through the rest of her healing journey.
If you can donate, even a small amount, it makes a direct impact on Harley’s recovery. If you can’t donate, please share her story. Every dollar helps cover her veterinary bills and ensures we can continue saying “yes” to puppies like her when they need us most.
Harley was hours away from losing her chance. Today, she’s resting safely in foster care because people like you care. Let’s finish what we started and give this sweet girl the healthy, happy future she deserves.
5/27/26 Update
We are so excited to share the happiest update on sweet Harley — this brave little girl has officially gotten her happy ending!
When Harley first came to us, she was just a tiny puppy fighting for her life. At only 4–5 months old, she was suffering from a painful ruptured abscess, anemia, demodex mites, and the effects of trying to survive alone on the streets. She had even been placed on the euthanasia list before This is Houston stepped in to save her. Thanks to your support, Harley received the emergency medical care she desperately needed and was able to begin healing safely in foster care.
And now, the best news of all: Harley transported to one of our amazing rescue partners and has already been adopted into a loving home of her very own!
The scared, sick puppy who was once hours away from losing her chance at life is now safe, cherished, and finally getting to experience what every dog deserves — love, comfort, security, and a family.
None of this would have been possible without the incredible compassion of everyone who donated, shared her story, and cheered her on throughout her recovery journey. Your support not only saved Harley’s life, but also helped ensure we can continue saying “yes” to animals in critical need when they have nowhere else to turn.
From all of us — and especially from Harley — thank you for mak ing this beautiful outcome possible. Stories like Harley’s remind us why rescue matters so much. She has a bright future ahead, and we could not be more grateful that you were part of her journey.
