Harvey Deserves Better: Help This Sweet Bulldog See the World Without Pain

Harvey is the kind of dog who makes people smile the moment they meet him. With his squishy bulldog face, gentle personality, and sweet, trusting eyes, he’s the definition of a good boy. But those same eyes are hurting.

Harvey was recently surrendered to Saving Sage Animal Rescue Foundation by his owners, who told us they simply didn’t want him anymore. Just like that, Harvey lost the only home he knew. Despite the confusion and heartbreak, he has remained incredibly sweet, leaning into every gentle touch and looking to people for comfort.

Now that he’s safe with us, we can see just how much he’s been suffering. Harvey has bilateral cherry eye, a painful condition where the gland in the third eyelid prolapses and becomes swollen and inflamed. Both of Harvey’s eyes are extremely red and irritated, and without surgery, the condition will continue to cause discomfort and could eventually lead to more serious eye problems.

The good news is that cherry eye surgery has an excellent prognosis, and once repaired, Harvey will finally be able to live without the constant irritation and inflammation he’s experiencing now. But as a rescue, we can’t do this alone.

Harvey has already been through the heartbreak of being given up by the people who were supposed to love him forever. We want to show him that the world is still full of kindness—and that he matters.

4/25/26 Update

We have wonderful news to share — Harvey is officially scheduled for his cherry eye surgery at the end of May with the eye specialty veterinarian.

This is a huge step forward for this sweet boy.

Since coming into rescue, Harvey has done nothing but show us love despite all he has been through. Being surrendered by the only family he knew was heartbreaking enough, but living every day with the redness, irritation, and discomfort in both of his eyes has only added to his struggle.

Soon, that relief is finally in sight.

Harvey’s upcoming procedure will repair the painful prolapsed glands in both eyes and give him the chance to live without the constant

inflammation that has been bothering him for so long. Once healed, he will not only feel better physically, but he’ll also be one step closer to the fresh start and forever home he deserves.

We are so grateful that this surgery is now on the calendar — and it is only possible because of the kindness and support being shown to Harvey.
