Helena is a ten-year-old Yorkie mix in Dallas, TX, who needs $1,055 for urgent surgery.

The clock was ticking on Helena's life. The senior Yorkie mix was picked up by animal control in Texas and brought to a shelter where she faced being euthanized. The poor thing was matted, filthy, and had several hardened mammary tumors.

Luckily, the shelter contacted Scott B. with Pooch Savers Rescue.

"Anytime we get a call from a shelter, we'll do our best to make space available," Scott tells Waggle. "They told us she was older and needed help. We did not want her to get euthanized. That's just not in our DNA."

Soon after Scott picked Helena up, he learned she was a medical mess. "We took her into our vet for an assessment," Scott says. "Outside of needing to be spayed, she has severe periodontal disease, along with the mammary masses."

Helena will have surgery at Noah's Ark Vet to fix her teeth, spay, and remove her tumors. The masses will be sent to pathology and will hopefully be benign. But first, the rescue needs to raise the money for her case. They're hoping you'll help this diamond on the rough.

"I'm very optimistic once she gets the medical attention she needs, she will live out the rest of her life to her breed's standard age of 15 to 16 years," Scott says. "I'm so grateful for anyone who can donate to help us help Helena. She deserves the best!"
