About this campaign

After surviving a heartbreaking start to life, even a routine neuter has turned into another medical hurdle for this goofy boy.

Bert originally came into shelter care as part of a cruelty case seizure. He had endured a rough start and arrived in terrible condition, weighing only 13 pounds. But his resilient spirit quickly began to shine through. During nearly two weeks in foster care, Bert gained seven pounds, grew a little taller, and started showing everyone the quirky, lovable personality underneath. Bert is also deaf aside from his ability to hear certain high-pitched frequencies, but that hasn't stopped this clever boy from learning. His foster began teaching him sign language, and he quickly started following along.

Recognizing that Bert would benefit from a rescue experienced with his breed and individual needs, his original shelter worked with Husky House to give him the specialized care and support he deserved.

More recently, Bert faced another unexpected medical challenge. His caregivers had been monitoring him because neither of his testicles had descended. When they still failed to appear, Bert was evaluated by an internal medicine specialist and underwent an ultrasound in an attempt to locate them. Even with advanced imaging, one of the testicles could not be found.

Because of this, Bert could not undergo a routine neuter at his regular veterinary clinic. Instead, he needed specialized surgery at Garden State, where the veterinary team would have to explore his abdomen to locate and remove the retained testicle.

For a dog who started life as the victim of cruelty, Bert has already come an incredibly long way. He is a handsome, goofy and wonderfully quirky boy who has charmed the people caring for him and shown just how resilient he can be. Now, Husky House is making sure this latest medical hurdle doesn't stand in the way of the brighter future he deserves.

Donations to Bert's fundraiser will help with the costs of his specialist evaluation, ultrasound and abdominal surgery so this sweet boy can put another medical challenge behind him.
