Help Cassay Find His Footing

At just 7 months old, Cassay should be running, playing, and exploring the world around him. Instead, this young boy is struggling just to stand on his back legs.

After Cassay had difficulty walking for nearly two weeks, Baw Baw Animal Welfare brought him to Vetcare Animal Hospital for help. A neurological exam revealed concerning problems with his hind legs and lower back. His reflexes are very weak or completely absent in his back legs, and he is having difficulty supporting himself and standing normally.

Thankfully, an examination of his pelvis found no fractures. But Cassay’s symptoms point to a neurological or spinal injury that needs treatment and close monitoring.

His veterinary team has started an intensive treatment plan to give him the best possible chance of improving. Cassay is receiving IV antibiotics, medication to protect his stomach, high-dose steroids to help address inflammation associated with spinal injury, and Neurobion to support his nervous system.

For such a young pup, suddenly losing strength and control in his back legs is incredibly difficult. But Cassay now has people fighting for him and we want to give him every opportunity to regain his strength and mobility.

Baw Baw Animal Welfare is hoping to raise $1,500 to help cover Cassay’s veterinary care and continued treatment. Every donation, no matter the size, will help provide the medical support he needs as his team works toward getting this sweet 7-month-old back on his feet.
