About this campaign

Choco is a 6-year-old black mixed-breed boy, about 8 pounds of courage. He survived the streets as a stray but never alone: he arrived at NYC's Animal Care Centers holding tight to Vanili, his bonded companion. This week I adopted them together, because a bond like theirs is not something you separate.

At his first vet visit, Choco was diagnosed with Grade IV periodontal disease, advanced, painful dental disease. His written estimate: $2,164.80, before the extractions by Park Slope Veterinary Center, Vanili's mouth tested even worse she already chews on one side from pain so her dental comes first, then Choco's, at lower-cost nonprofit clinics.

Choco leans into every hand that reaches for him even after everything, he trusts people completely. And he watches for Vanili: wherever she goes, he follows. They were brought in together, adopted together, and they heal together. When his mouth stops hurting, he'll finally play like the puppy his heart still is.

ACC covered vaccines, spay/neuter, microchips, vouchers, food. I've paid the rest — but two Grade IV dentals exceed my fixed income. Goal $900 covers Choco's dental at Vet Wheels (Bushwick). Funds go directly to the clinic. Vanili's campaign follows.
