About this campaign
Charlotte is only 3.5 pounds, but this tiny senior girl has survived more than any dog should ever have to endure.
Charlotte and her bonded sister, Cricket, were rescued from one of the worst hoarding situations our county had ever seen. More than 80 cats and 20 dogs were living inside a filthy home with no air conditioning or proper ventilation. According to the Sheriff’s Office, animals were being kept in crates stacked in layers of feces, and in one room, the animal waste was more than a foot deep.
This was the life Charlotte knew.
When Charlotte was rescued by Cobie’s Cottage, she was in critical condition. She had suffered severe closed head blunt force trauma from something heavy falling on her, and she had also been given a topical flea medication intended for a much larger dog. The combination of her injuries and the medication overdose left this tiny girl fighting for her life.
For the first month in her rescue’s care, Charlotte required 24/7 attention. She had to be hand-fed and given water through a syringe because she was unable to care for herself.
And Charlotte’s medical needs didn’t end once she survived those first critical weeks.
She is unable to properly regulate her body temperature, leaving her vulnerable to overheating. One of her amazing supporters even made her a special cooling cap to help keep her safe.
Today, Charlotte is still receiving extensive care as her rescue works to give her the healthiest and most comfortable life possible. She is being treated by her regular veterinarian, a neurological specialist, and a holistic veterinarian. Her care currently includes medication, regular acupuncture, physical therapy, specialized nutrition, and other supportive treatments. Depending on her progress, she may also need an MRI and additional neurological testing to better understand the lasting effects of her head trauma.
Charlotte also needs adaptive items to keep her safe and comfortable at home. Padded flooring can help protect her fragile head from further injury, while a white noise machine and other calming supplies may help her during storms, when changes in barometric pressure appear to cause her condition to worsen.
Your donation will help Cobie’s Cottage provide Charlotte with the specialized care she needs, including veterinary visits, neurological testing, physical therapy, a possible MRI, medications, acupuncture, specialized nutrition, and adaptive equipment.
Charlotte has already survived an unimaginable beginning. Now she has people who are determined to give her something very different: safety, comfort, patience, and the chance to live the rest of her life surrounded by love.
At just 3.5 pounds, Charlotte may be tiny, but she has already shown an incredible will to survive.
Please help us continue giving this precious little girl the care she needs. Every donation can help Charlotte stay safe, comfortable, and moving forward.
