Help Chata Beat Heartworm Twice

Chata is a sweet and gentle giant who recently found herself on the euthanasia list at a high-kill shelter in Houston. Like so many larger dogs, Chata was struggling to find a way out—and being a heartworm positive senior made her chances of leaving the shelter alive even smaller.

But Chata had people fighting for her.

The shelter volunteers tirelessly advocated for her survival, sharing her story and doing everything they could to make sure someone saw just how special she was. Thanks to their determination, Montana’s Pack Rescue stepped in and saved Chata before it was too late.

Sadly, this isn’t Chata’s first time needing a second chance.

Records show that Chata was adopted from the same shelter in 2022, when she was also heartworm positive. Somehow, for reasons we may never know, she ended up back at the shelter years later—once again facing heartworm disease and this time, the possibility of euthanasia.

Despite everything she has been through, Chata couldn’t be sweeter. Her submissive affection melts the hearts of everyone she meets and that is why so many fought for her life.

Now that Chata is safe with Montana’s Pack Rescue, the next step is helping her get healthy. Heartworm disease is serious, but it is very treatable. Chata will need veterinary care and heartworm treatment before she can truly put her shelter days behind her and begin looking forward to the life she deserves.

Chata came frighteningly close to losing that chance simply because she is a big senior dog with medical needs. Volunteers fought to keep her story from ending at the shelter, and Montana’s Pack Rescue answered their call.

Now Chata needs our help to finish her medical journey so she can find her forever family during her golden years.
