It is with broken hearts that we share the heartbreaking news that sweet Comet has passed away.
For six days, Comet fought for his life in the ICU. This tiny kitten had already endured so much in his short life, and despite the tireless efforts of his veterinary team, he was never able to stabilize or regain the strength he desperately needed. The extreme anemia and malnutrition had taken a devastating toll on his fragile little body, and sadly, he was just too weak to overcome it.
One of the most heartbreaking parts of Comet’s story is that he already had an adopter waiting for him in the United States. Someone was ready to welcome him into a loving home, give him a safe place to grow, and show him the life every kitten deserves. We held onto hope that he would get that chance, but tragically, it was not meant to be.
Comet should have had the opportunity to grow up surrounded by love, play with toys, curl up in a warm bed, and experience all the beautiful things life had waiting for him. Instead, his little life was marked by cruelty and suffering that no innocent animal should ever have to endure.
We are heartbroken that we couldn't give Comet the happy ending we fought so hard for. But we are grateful that he was not left to suffer alone. For six days, he received medical attention and care from people who wanted desperately to save him.
Thank you to everyone who donated, shared Comet’s story, and hoped alongside us. Your generosity helped provide the intensive veterinary care he needed during his fight. Although we wish the outcome had been different, your kindness gave him a chance.
Rest peacefully, sweet Comet. You deserved so much more than the world gave you. You were loved, you mattered, and you will not be forgotten.
About this campaign
This tiny kitten should have been safe beside his mother, learning how to play, explore, and grow. Instead, he was stolen from her and subjected to horrific abuse by children.
Comet was hit in the eye, injured, and left separated from the only protection he knew. By the time Paws & Claws Animal Welfare received a request for help, this innocent baby was in desperate need of medical attention.
They immediately rescued him and rushed him to a veterinary hospital. What the veterinary team found was heartbreaking. Little Comet's body temperature was dangerously low, and he was suffering from severe dehydration and extreme exhaustion. His eyes were badly swollen, and he could barely open them. Blood covered his tiny face, and the veterinary team worked to carefully clean away as much as they could. He was also bleeding from his nose and required injections to help control the bleeding. Because he was so weak and fragile, he was immediately admitted to the ICU, where the veterinary team is working around the clock to stabilize him and bring his body temperature back to normal.
Right now, Comet is simply too fragile for additional testing. His little body needs time to stabilize before the veterinarians can safely perform the examinations necessary to understand the full extent of his injuries.
We don't yet know everything Comet has endured or what his road to recovery will look like. We do know that he deserved none of this.
He should have been with his mother. He should have been playing. He should have been loved and protected. Instead, he is fighting for his life in an ICU.
Paws & Claws Animal Welfare stepped in because they refused to let this innocent kitten suffer any longer. Now they need our help to give him the medical care he needs to survive.
His veterinary expenses are already mounting, and additional diagnostics, treatment, hospitalization, and care will be needed as his condition develops.

Sweet Comet is still fighting, and unfortunately, this tiny kitten needs more help.
After everything he has endured, Comet recently became increasingly lethargic and stopped gaining the weight he desperately needs. Because of his fragile condition, Paws & Claws Animal Welfare rushed him back to the emergency veterinary hospital for continued monitoring and care.
Comet will remain hospitalized until his veterinary team is confident that he is stable enough to continue his recovery outside the hospital. For such a tiny kitten, every bit of progress matters, and his medical team is working to give his little body the support it needs to heal and grow stronger.
His continued hospitalization means his veterinary expenses are increasing, and more funds are urgently needed to help cover his care.
