About this campaign
When Diamond arrived at Miri’s Haven Senior Dog Rescue, rescuers were stunned by what this tiny 8-year-old Chihuahua had been carrying.
At just 8 pounds, Diamond had a massive inguinal hernia so severe that her abdominal organs had pushed outside of her body and were hanging between her legs, dragging along the ground. There was also a second hernia on the opposite side. It is impossible to know how long Diamond lived this way or how she survived without the hernia becoming damaged or rupturing.
The situation was incredibly serious, and a specialist surgeon was brought in to give Diamond a chance. Thankfully, she made it through her surgery. But this was far more complicated than a routine hernia repair.
Her surgeons carefully returned her displaced organs to her abdominal cavity and repaired both hernias using specialty surgical techniques and biological mesh to reinforce the repairs. Diamond was also spayed, and her spleen had to be removed because it had become unhealthy after spending so much time outside of her abdomen.
Diamond survived the surgery—but her medical journey is far from over.
The surgery itself came with an estimate of approximately $4,591, and she now needs significant postoperative care and monitoring. The next several days are critical as her body adjusts to everything being back where it belongs and as her surgical repairs are closely monitored. Her care team must also watch carefully for complications while she heals from this extensive procedure.
And there are still additional veterinary needs ahead, including a dental once Diamond is stable.
That means donations are still desperately needed. Even though Diamond made it through the surgery we were all hoping she would survive, the veterinary bills did not end when she left the operating room. In fact, this is only the beginning of the care she will need to recover.
Miri’s Haven made the decision to give Diamond a chance because this sweet little dog deserved to know what it feels like to be comfortable and loved. Now they need help covering the cost of the lifesaving surgery, hospitalization, medications, follow-up care, and the treatment still ahead.
For now, Diamond is resting comfortably with pain medication on board. Her organs are back where they belong. Her hernias have been repaired. And most importantly, she is still here. 💜
Please consider donating toward Diamond’s ongoing medical care. Every contribution helps Miri’s Haven continue caring for her through this critical recovery and gives this tiny senior girl the chance to finally live without the enormous burden she has carried for far too long.
Diamond made it through surgery. Now let's help her make it through recovery. 🙏🐾
