About this campaign

Gemma came into my life in December 2012, when I rescued her from a shelter—and she has had my heart ever since. She’s a sweet little terrier mix with a big heart of her own, loving people and every dog she meets. Now 15, she’s still spry, playful, and loves to run. Nearly 14 years later, I’m so grateful that this little shelter dog and I found each other.

Gemma is now facing a serious dental infection and has been diagnosed with Stage 1 chronic kidney disease. She is currently on medication for the infection, but her veterinarian says several diseased teeth need to be surgically removed to fully clear the infection and protect her health. Gemma is receiving care at Downtown Greensboro Animal Hospital.

Gemma has been by my side for nearly 14 years, and in that time she has become so much more than a pet—she is family. Her sweet, gentle spirit has brought me comfort and companionship through many seasons of my own life. Even at 15, she wants to run, play, and enjoy her days. Helping her recover means giving this little dog, who has given me so much love, the chance to feel well and enjoy life.

I’m 70 and living on a limited income. I’ve already spent more than $500 on Gemma’s exams, testing, and veterinary care, but I can’t manage the cost of the surgery she now needs. Asking for help isn’t easy, but Gemma means the world to me. I’m turning to my family and community for support in giving her the care she needs to feel well again.
