Help Hoku get Leg and hip surgery — Sacramento, CA

Hoku is a sweet, loving 1-year-old Shar Pei who loves cuddles, adventures, exploring, and meeting new people. We moved to Sacramento on 9/1. On 9/11, she ran out while I was at work and was missing for 2 days. On 9/13, an amazing couple found her badly injured and took her to the vet. They later found us through social media and brought our girl home.

Hoku suffered a displaced femur fracture, pelvic fracture and dislocated hip after being hit by a car. VCA is concerned about possible spinal-cord injury and recommended an MRI to determine the extent of her injuries and whether surgery is possible. We are seeking urgent specialty care.

Hoku was a gift to my daughter during one of the darkest times in her life. Hoku gave her comfort, love and a purpose again. She quickly became the apple of our eye. Hoku goes everywhere with me and has become my daughter’s best friend and my best friend too. She is truly family.

In the last few months, my previous employer closed after filing Chapter 7, leaving me unemployed for 2 months. My savings & credit was severely impacted to survive that time. I am now working again, & I’ve been denied financing asst & cannot afford Hoku’s treatment alone.
