I met Issey while he was living on the street with his homeless owner. He was friendly and trusting, but clearly in pain and unable to properly use his rear leg. With his owner's cooperation, I offered Issey a safe place to stay and got him the veterinary attention he desperately needed. What began as an effort to help became surgery and prolonged treatment for a serious infection and wound, as well as getting Issey neutered.

Issey is one of those dogs who seems to have a smile for everyone. Beautiful, gentle and extraordinarily friendly, he remained trusting and affectionate despite living without the resources or medical care he desperately needed. When we found him, he could no longer put weight on his rear leg, and it became clear that without intervention, this sweet dog was facing a slow and painful decline. Yet through everything—the pain, surgery and ongoing treatment—Issey's wonderful spirit has remained intact. He greets people with warmth, affection and that unmistakable smile. He was worth taking a chance on, and we want to give him the healthy future he deserves.

The cost of saving Issey quickly became far greater than anyone anticipated. His owner is without financial resources, and I stepped in because Issey desperately needed help and there was no one else to provide it.
