About this campaign

When Jazzie, also known as Jasmine, first came to Maybel’s Legacy, she was already fighting to recover from severe mange and the damage it had done to her body.

At her first full veterinary exam, we finally got a clearer picture of what this sweet girl was facing. Jazzie was estimated to be about 3 years old and was dealing with a lingering skin infection, bilateral ear infections, and enlarged lymph nodes. Her immune system was working hard to heal, so vaccines had to be put on hold while she recovered.

She started a new course of antibiotics, specialized medication for her ears, medicated baths, prebiotics and probiotics to support her system, and a Cytopoint injection to help relieve her persistent itching. Thankfully, her testing for heartworm, Lyme disease, Ehrlichia, and Anaplasmosis was negative, giving us some good news to celebrate.

We were hopeful that with continued treatment, Jazzie could finally begin putting her difficult past behind her.

But then came devastating news.

At a recent veterinary visit, Jazzie was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. Her veterinary team believes it may be lymphoma or melanoma, and we are still waiting for the official diagnosis.

Based on what the veterinary team has told us, Jazzie may have a maximum of approximately four months. Even if chemotherapy were an option, the rescue was told that it could potentially extend her time to approximately 9 to 12 months.

For Jazzie, the focus now is not on putting her through more difficult treatment. She is currently happy and comfortable and is not in pain, so we have made the decision to provide her with hospice care for as long as she remains comfortable.

Jazzie has already been through so much in her short life. Despite everything, she is soaking up the love around her and resting comfortably with the people who are now making sure she will never have to face another difficult day alone.

Your donation will help Maybel’s Legacy provide Jazzie with the veterinary care, medications, comfort care, and other support she needs during her hospice journey.

We wish we could give Jazzie more time, but we can give her something incredibly important: love, comfort, dignity, and a safe place to spend the time she has left.

Please consider helping us care for Jazzie during this final chapter. Every donation helps us make sure this sweet girl is surrounded by the care she deserves for as long as possible. ❤️
