Help Wally Leave His Pain Behind

When Rescue City saved Wally on July 4th, we knew the wound on his leg was bad. We didn't yet know that helping him heal would require more than a month of intensive care and over $6,000 for one dog.

Wally had a horrific, extremely deep open wound on his leg - raw, exposed, and severe enough that healing would not happen quickly or easily. This wasn't a scrape or an injury that could simply be stitched closed and forgotten. Wally was facing a long, painful recovery requiring intensive wound management and constant veterinary oversight.

Since his rescue, Wally has needed back to back veterinary appointments every 3-4 days to examine, clean, treat, and re-bandage his wound. Each visit has added hundreds of dollars to his care, while weeks of necessary medical boarding have pushed his total expenses beyond $6,000, and his recovery isn't over yet.

Funds raised through this campaign will help cover Wally's ongoing wound treatment, frequent veterinary rechecks and bandage changes, medications, medical boarding, and the continued care he needs to safely reach the end of his recovery.

But Wally is so much more than his medical bills. He's a young, smart, energetic dog who spent much of his life without the freedom and stimulation every dog deserves. Since his rescue, the very treatment necessary to heal him has also meant more restriction: a cone, limited activity, no rough play, and few opportunities to socialize normally with other dogs.

Imagine finally being given your freedom, and then having to spend your first weeks of it being told you still can't run and play.

That frustration and pent up energy began showing up in Wally's behavior, so Rescue City made another commitment to him. He now works regularly with a professional trainer while we support his foster home, helping him find appropriate outlets for his energy and learn the skills that will give him the best possible chance at a forever home.

We didn't save Wally just to heal his wound. We saved him to give him a life.

Appointment after appointment. Bandage after bandage. Boarding bill after boarding bill. For more than a month, we've kept showing up for Wally because he deserved someone willing to see his recovery through.

Now, we need help carrying him the rest of the way.

Every donation toward Wally's medical care helps relieve the enormous cost of his recovery and gets him closer to the day when the bandages and cone finally come off for good. It also helps give Rescue City the ability to keep saying yes when the next injured, overlooked dog desperately needs someone in their corner.
