About this campaign

Maeve should have spent her senior years feeling safe, loved, and cared for. Instead, this senior girl was found chained in a backyard, severely emaciated and desperately ill.

Maeve was confiscated by BARC Animal Shelter & Adoptions as part of an ongoing cruelty investigation. By the time she was rescued, her body had been pushed to its limits. She was so weak and malnourished that it’s heartbreaking to imagine how much she had endured—and she was in desperate need of medical intervention.

This Is Houston stepped in to give Maeve the chance she so desperately needed. She was rushed to Vergi 24/7, where veterinarians discovered that Maeve was suffering from pyometra, a life-threatening infection of the uterus. She was also critically anemic, with a PCV of just 11%. She was so anemic that she needed an emergency blood transfusion simply to give her body a fighting chance.

Thankfully, an incredible canine blood donor named Amber stepped up and donated blood for Maeve. That lifesaving gift helped stabilize her while the veterinary team treated her infection and supported her fragile body with IV fluids and medications.

Because Maeve had open pyometra, the infection was able to drain rather than becoming trapped inside her uterus. Once she was stable enough, she underwent a spay with a regular veterinarian. During the procedure, the veterinary team also removed three masses, which have been sent out for biopsy.

And despite everything she has been through, Maeve is showing us just how strong she is. She’s already bouncing back.

Maeve still has a long road ahead. Her severely undernourished body needs time to rebuild its strength, and she’ll need continued veterinary care as she recovers from infection, anemia, surgery, parasites, and the neglect she endured.

She is also battling coccidia and giardia, adding even more challenges to an already incredibly difficult recovery.

But there is something Maeve has now that she never had before: a chance. She is safe. She is receiving medical care. She is surrounded by people who believe she is worth fighting for.

After being chained and starved, Maeve deserves to know what it feels like to be comfortable, full, warm, and loved.

Please help This Is Houston cover Maeve’s lifesaving medical care and give this sweet senior girl the second chance she deserves. Every donation helps provide the treatment, medications, diagnostics, and ongoing care she needs to heal.

Maeve has fought incredibly hard to make it this far. Now, let’s make sure she gets to see what life can be when someone finally cares.
