A positive heartworm test can be enough to make an otherwise wonderful dog get passed by, simply because potential adopters are worried about the cost and responsibility of treatment.
Magnet is a sweet 29 pound Black Mouth Cur mix who has not received the proper care she deserved in the past. Now, Newton County Paws & Purpose is stepping up to help her get the medical care she needs and give her a better chance at finding a loving home.
Unfortunately, Magnet has tested positive for heartworm disease and needs treatment to get her health back on track. While heartworm is treatable, knowing that a dog comes with an upcoming veterinary bill can make potential adopters hesitant to take that chance.
We don't want Magnet's diagnosis to stand between her and the forever home she deserves.
Funds raised through this campaign will help Newton County Paws & Purpose cover the cost of Magnet's heartworm treatment so she can receive the veterinary care she needs while continuing her search for a family.

Magnet recently got to leave the shelter for a very special day, visiting residents at PruittHealth in Covington. She spent her outing soaking up attention, making people smile, and showing everyone what a sweet little companion she can be. She even got a pup cup afterward for being such a good girl.
But at the end of her special day, Magnet still had to go back to the shelter.
This petite 29-pound girl has been waiting far too long for someone to choose her. Even while living in a shelter and undergoing treatment for heartworm disease, Magnet still has so much love to give. Her recent outing gave her a glimpse of what life outside the shelter can be like, but what she really needs is a family and a home of her own.
Her rescue is taking responsibility for the cost of her heartworm treatment so that this medical expense doesn't have to stand between Magnet and an adopter. That's why donations to her Waggle campaign are still so important. Every dollar raised helps cover the veterinary care needed to get Magnet through her heartworm treatment and takes some of that financial burden off the organization fighting for her.
Magnet shouldn't have to keep waiting behind shelter walls while wondering when it will finally be her turn.
