Help Save Meatloaf: A Senior Dog in Crisis

Meatloaf is a senior dog who should have been spending his golden years feeling safe and cared for. Instead, he arrived at a county shelter as a stray in heartbreaking condition—and now, he is struggling simply to breathe.

His little body tells the story of prolonged neglect. His skin is red, raw, crusted, and severely inflamed, with extensive hair loss. But right now, the most urgent concern is his breathing. Meatloaf is experiencing respiratory distress, and he needs immediate veterinary attention.

When the municipal shelter was preparing to close, it became clear that Meatloaf could not safely stay there overnight. He needed someone to step forward and get him to emergency care, and NYC Second Chance Rescue refused to leave him behind.

Meatloaf is now in need of an urgent medical evaluation to determine what is causing his breathing difficulties and assess the many other health problems he may be facing. We don't yet know what his veterinary team will find, but we know he needs help—and he needs it now.

Emergency hospitalization, diagnostic testing, medications, oxygen support, and treatment can quickly become incredibly expensive, especially for a senior dog who has clearly been without proper care for far too long.

But Meatloaf deserves the chance to find out what it feels like to be safe, comfortable, and loved.
