About this campaign

At only one year old, this sweet boy arrived at Husky House with almost nothing left to give.

Mordenkainen was brought in as a stray on September 11 after his finder reported that he was suffering from severe bloody diarrhea, barely eating, and drinking excessive amounts of water. When shelter staff examined him, it quickly became clear just how critically ill he was.

Mordenkainen was severely emaciated with a body condition score of just 1, with significant muscle wasting and very little interest in food. Testing revealed severe regenerative anemia, dangerously low protein levels, profound abnormalities in his white blood cell count, low calcium and sodium levels, and severe hematochezia. His intestinal loops were fluid-filled, and his gums were pale as his weakened body struggled to keep going.

Despite how awful he must have felt, Mordenkainen remained remarkably gentle.

Shelter staff described him sitting quietly on his bed with soft eyes before approaching them with a loose, wagging tail. He allowed handling, walked nicely once outside, and even found enough energy to chase toys around the yard. When introduced to another dog, he offered a friendly greeting before calmly continuing on his way.

With Mordenkainen facing such serious medical problems and needing to leave the shelter quickly, Husky House stepped in to give him the chance he desperately needed.

His condition required intensive veterinary care, including hospitalization and a blood transfusion to help stabilize his severe anemia. Thankfully, there are already encouraging signs. His red blood cell count has begun improving enough for Mordenkainen to leave the hospital and continue his recovery outside of it.

He has made it through the most frightening part of this journey, but his medical care and recovery are not over. After arriving emaciated and critically ill, this young dog will need continued veterinary monitoring and support as his body heals and he works toward becoming the healthy, happy dog he should have had the chance to be all along.

Husky House was there to say yes when Mordenkainen needed lifesaving care. Please consider helping with the veterinary expenses that gave this incredibly sweet young dog his chance at a brighter tomorrow.
