About this campaign
Five-year-old Rainey came to us from a Kentucky shelter after a worker noticed something unusual about the little beagle’s front legs. When she walks, they bend in a place they shouldn’t—the kind of thing that makes you cringe when you see it and wonder how much it must hurt.
We suspected carpal laxity, possibly the result of poor nutrition during her formative years, and sent Rainey to the vet for X-rays and an evaluation. The good news? Her legs don’t require surgery. Good nutrition and pain management, if needed, may be all she needs. But then the vet discovered something we never saw coming.
During Rainey’s examination, multiple mammary masses were found—including one large mass and a chain of three additional masses. Now Rainey needs surgery. The masses need to be removed and sent for histopathology so we can find out exactly what we are dealing with—and whether our sweet five-year-old girl is facing cancer.
We were prepared for X-rays and an evaluation. We weren’t prepared for this. But this is where rescue gets very simple for us: if Rainey were our own dog, we wouldn’t hesitate to give her the medical care she needs. We won’t give a rescue dog anything less.
Rainey may not have had anyone looking out for her during those important early years of her life. But she has all of us now.
When enough people give just a little, together we can do something very big for one little beagle. Please consider donating to help us get Rainey the surgery she needs—and SHARE her story so it can reach someone else who might want to help.
And please keep our little girl in your thoughts as we take this next step with her.
