Loyal Golden Retriever Covered In Tumors Is Left By Owners To Drown In A Pond, They Wanted Her Dead

Her head kept slipping under the water. River, a senior Golden with multiple tumors and partial blindness, was struggling to stay afloat in the middle of a pond when a stranger spotted her from the bank and went in after her. He carried her out on his back. She needs urgent medical care, and we need your help to cover it.

A Good Samaritan reached out to us about a dog he had found in the water. He had seen her fighting to keep her head up, and he did not hesitate. He went in, got to her, lifted her onto his back, and carried her through the water to solid ground. There is no residential area anywhere near that pond. No homes, no yards, no reason for an elderly dog to be out there on her own. It leads us to believe she was brought there and left to die, and that she was never meant to make it out of that water.

He kept her safe and warm for the night and brought her to the vet hospital the next morning. The exam confirmed what he had feared when he first got a good look at her: River has multiple tumors, and she is partially blind. She had been carrying all of this before she ever ended up in that pond. She is an older girl with a lot of miles behind her, and she is going to need a great deal of care and a great deal of love. She should be spending these years asleep in a warm bed with someone who adores her. Instead, someone decided she was disposable. We are going to spend every day from here proving them wrong, because River deserves to live her final chapter in love and peace.

Please donate to River now to help us save her. Your donation will cover her diagnostics, imaging, bloodwork, treatment and surgical care for her tumors, pain management, vision support, and the ongoing senior care she will need going forward. We need you. River needs you. We will be sure to post updates on River every step of the way. Thank you.

Since the people who likely abandoned River are unknown, and there are no viable leads, an investigation cannot be opened. Right now, the best thing we can do for River is help her heal. Thank you for your understanding.
