It’s hard to believe that just over two months ago, Rudy was fighting for his life. This little puppy was found critically ill, needing blood transfusions, a feeding tube, and round-the-clock hospital care for 10 days. His future was uncertain, and every day was a fight to survive.
Today, Rudy is a healthy, happy, playful puppy with his whole life ahead of him!
Thanks to This Is Houston, his veterinary team, and everyone who supported his recovery, Rudy has come an incredible distance. He went from lying helpless in a hospital to being a puppy who can finally enjoy life the way he always deserved.
But there's one thing missing from his happily ever after: a forever home.
Rudy has received seven adoption applications, but five applicants backed out, and another stopped responding. After everything this brave boy has overcome, it's heartbreaking that he's still waiting for a family to call his own.
Rudy has already fought so hard for the chance to live. Now, he deserves a family who will choose him, love him, and stand by him for the rest of his life.

Meet Rudy. He’s just a puppy, but he has already endured more suffering than any little dog should ever know. Now, he needs our help to get his second chance.
When This is Houston saw a post circulating about a puppy who had been found desperately ill and in need of help, they stepped up. Rudy was rushed to Vergi 24/7, where his condition was far more serious than anyone initially realized.
Rudy had been so critically ill and unable to move that he had remained in one position for an extended period of time. As a result, he developed a severe pressure sore on his hip. A large area of hardened, dead tissue had formed over the wound and had to be removed, leaving very little healthy tissue behind. Depending on how the wound heals, Rudy may eventually need surgery to close it.
He also has a painful wound over his knee. Thankfully, what initially appeared to be exposed bone turned out to be exposed tissue — but there is still very little healthy tissue available to cover the injury, meaning surgical closure may also be necessary.
And sadly, the end of Rudy’s tail has become necrotic. A portion of his tail will need to be amputated.
But despite everything his tiny body has been through, Rudy is fighting. His recovery has been slow, but he is making progress.
Rudy has gained strength and is becoming more alert. He’s starting to show his personality, even barking at other patients as they pass his kennel. He’s showing more interest in standing, and while he still cannot walk, he is no longer the fragile little “noodle” he was when he arrived.
He continues to receive range-of-motion exercises and is eating consistently every four hours. His wounds are receiving ongoing care, including specialized bandaging and hydrogel for the severe hip wound.
And there is even more good news. Rudy tested negative for distemper. His bloodwork continues to improve. His temperature is staying stable, his blood sugar has remained steady, and his red blood cell count is holding at 21% following his transfusions. Most encouragingly, his white blood cell count has climbed from approximately 1.7 to 7.6 — a huge improvement from where this little puppy started.
He has also been able to come out of the incubator, and his veterinary team has reduced some of the additives in his fluids as his body continues to stabilize.
There is still a major hurdle ahead: Rudy’s albumin levels need to stabilize, and his wounds will require continued intensive care. His recovery may involve additional procedures, including possible surgical closure of his wounds and the necessary tail amputation.
But every improved blood value matters. Every bark matters. Every attempt to stand matters.
Rudy is still here. He is fighting. And now he needs us to fight alongside him.

It’s hard to believe how far sweet Rudy has come.
When Rudy first arrived, he weighed just 10 pounds and was unable to stand. He was septic, severely anemic, dangerously cold, and extremely emaciated. His pale gums and fragile condition were heartbreaking, and he was truly fighting just to survive.
Now, look at him!
Rudy came to visit the This Is Houston team last week, and seeing him was an absolute joy. This once-fragile puppy is growing stronger and showing everyone just how much personality he has. He has even earned a new nickname—Rudy Roo—and it fits him perfectly!
And perhaps the best news of all: Rudy is officially up for adoption! 🎉
After everything this little guy has endured, he is finally ready to leave his medical struggles behind and start looking for the loving forever home he deserves. His journey from a critically ill puppy who couldn't stand to an adoptable, happy dog is nothing short of incredible.
Rudy may be ready for his next chapter, but his medical journey came with a significant price. His emergency hospitalization, intensive treatment, transfusions, wound care, medications, diagnostics, and ongoing monitoring resulted in thousands of dollars in veterinary expenses for This Is Houston.

Rudy continues to make incredible progress! This sweet boy is gaining weight, growing stronger, and showing more and more of his playful personality every day. His wounds are healing beautifully, and it’s hard to believe how far he has come from the critically ill puppy who first arrived at the ER.
There’s still a long road ahead, and his veterinary care has already resulted in significant medical expenses. Continued treatment, monitoring, and follow-up care will be essential as Rudy grows and recovers.
We’re so grateful for everyone who has supported Rudy so far. Every donation and share helps This Is Houston continue providing the care this little guy needs as he fights his way back to health.

We have some incredibly encouraging news about sweet Rudy. This little puppy has been through so much, but every day he is showing us more of the happy, feisty personality hiding underneath all that illness.
Rudy is barking, gaining strength, and becoming more full of life every day! He's showing off his personality and reminding everyone caring for him that he is so much more than the critically ill puppy who first arrived.
After everything his tiny body has endured, seeing him have the energy to bark and interact with the world around him is a huge victory. But keeping Rudy on the road to recovery requires an incredible amount of care.
He has now spent nine days receiving around-the-clock veterinary care, and those intensive days in the hospital add up quickly. Rudy's medical bill is currently around $13,000.
And his journey isn't over yet. He still needs continued treatment and monitoring as his wounds heal and his body grows stronger. There may also be additional procedures ahead depending on how his injuries progress.
This is a massive expense for a rescue, but This is Houston never gave up on Rudy. They stepped in when this tiny puppy was desperately ill and had nowhere else to turn.
