About this campaign

Meet Sonny ❤️

Sonny came into our lives as one of a litter of rescue puppies, and from the very beginning, he was impossible not to love. He was the cutest, chubbiest little boy, and he certainly never believed in missing a meal or passing up a treat! 😂

Now, at just 6 months old, Sonny is already a big 45-pound boy, but his size doesn't match his heart. He is the biggest softie, with not a mean bone in his body. One of our favorite things about Sonny is the way he seeks out kisses from his dad and me. Whenever he sees us, he does the biggest, happiest butt-wiggle walk straight toward us, as if seeing us is the best thing that has happened all day.

Sonny absolutely adores Winter, our 3-year-old Great Pyrenees. He's never seemed to realize that she was much bigger than he was and treated her like they were exactly the same size. To Sonny, she was simply his friend, his playmate, and part of his family.

That's who Sonny is. He's a big, goofy, loving puppy who has spent his short life giving us nothing but love and making us laugh. He has so much more life to live, and we are determined to give him every chance to keep being the happy, kiss-seeking, butt-wiggling boy we love so much.

Sonny was badly bitten in several places on his body, but the most serious injury is to his back right leg. What initially appeared to be an external wound progressed rapidly into a severe internal injury.

We rushed Sonny to Willow Bend Animal Clinic, where the veterinary team shaved him, thoroughly cleaned his wounds, and gave him pain medication and antibiotics. They understood our financial situation and did everything they could to get Sonny stabilized and home with us, but they were very clear that his injuries are extremely serious and that he truly needs professional, in-clinic care.

The skin on Sonny's leg had become necrotic. We were warned that as the antibiotics began working, the dead tissue would slough away, leaving a large, exposed wound. We were told that intensive wound care would be critical to his survival.

Since Wednesday, we have been caring for Sonny around the clock at home, giving his medications, cleaning and treating his wounds, and doing hydrotherapy as instructed. The tissue has now sloughed away, and approximately four inches of his leg bone and muscle are exposed.

We are doing everything we can to save both Sonny's leg and his life.

And despite everything his little body has been through, Sonny is still fighting. Today, he started eating again. After his hydrotherapy, he even gave me one of his famous little butt wiggles. That tiny wiggle meant everything to us. ❤️

Sonny now needs to be admitted to Willow Bend Animal Clinic for IV fluids, medication, professional wound care, and a procedure to cross-stitch the remaining skin so that it can begin repairing around the exposed bone.

He has a long and difficult road ahead of him, but he is fighting, and we want to give him every chance to have the happy, healthy life he deserves.

The veterinarian estimates that his initial night of hospitalization will cost approximately $600, and the cost will continue to increase as Sonny requires ongoing hospitalization, wound care, medication, and treatment.

We aren't asking people to save Sonny for us. We're asking for help giving this 6-month-old puppy a fighting chance.

Sonny didn't ask to be born into this harsh world and he deserves a chance to thrive. He's too kind and loving to not be given the best chance possible. His recovery is so very important to our family. I'm not one to give up as long as I know we can ensure he has quality of life.

We never expected to find ourselves asking for financial help for one of our dogs, but Sonny's injuries have put us in a situation we simply cannot handle on our own.

From the moment Sonny was attacked, we have done everything we possibly can for him. We got him to Willow Bend Animal Clinic, followed their instructions, and have been caring for him around the clock since Wednesday. We have been giving his medications, cleaning and treating his wounds, and doing hydrotherapy, all while watching over him and hoping every day that he would keep fighting.

But Sonny has now reached the point where home care is no longer enough. His leg has suffered extensive tissue loss, leaving bone and muscle exposed. He needs hospitalization, IV fluids and medication, professional wound care, and a procedure to help the remaining skin begin healing around his leg.

The estimated cost for just his first night of hospitalization is around $600, and his care will become more expensive the longer he needs treatment. We are doing everything we can financially, but we simply don't have the resources to cover the level of veterinary care Sonny now requires.

We're turning to our community because we don't want money to be the reason this little boy doesn't get his chance.

Sonny is only six months old. He's a 45-pound goofy baby who loves kisses, never turns down a treat, and still gives us that giant butt wiggle even after everything his little body has endured.

He's fighting.

We just need help giving him the opportunity to keep fighting.

Every donation, no matter the amount, will go directly toward Sonny's veterinary care. If you aren't able to donate, sharing his story can help just as much. We are incredibly grateful to anyone willing to stand in Sonny's corner while we fight alongside him. 🐾❤️
