Zeus suffered a serious spinal injury and will now require a wheelchair. Please show him love!

After suffering a serious spinal injury more than a month ago, his family did everything they could to help him. They sought veterinary care, but as his condition became more complex, the cost of specialized treatment and long-term care became impossible for them to manage.

Wanting Zeus to have the best chance at the life he deserves, they made the incredibly difficult decision to surrender him to RBARI.

Unable to walk on his own, Zeus was carried into our shelter in a shopping bag.

Today, Zeus is being evaluated by our veterinary team to determine the best course of treatment. Unfortunately, because of the time that has passed since his injury, surgery is no longer an option. Our focus is now on giving Zeus the best possible quality of life through rehabilitation, mobility support, and a custom wheelchair.

Because he has gone so long without being able to walk, Zeus also arrived severely underweight with significant muscle wasting.

Rebuilding his strength will take time, patience, specialized rehabilitation, and proper nutrition, but we are fully committed to giving him every opportunity to regain his health and enjoy the happy life he deserves.

He will require a wheelchair and will need help expressing his bladder while we continue to assess his progress.
