About this campaign
Hershey is a long-haired dachshund mix who has been with us since he was adopted into our family at 4 months old, named Hershey because he was the color of a Hershey bar as a puppy, and is now just as sweet. He's grown up with our 4 kids, now ages 30, 19, 17 & 9 yrs old. He is very close to his fur brothers (Gino & Nico), and ignores his adopted fur sister (Luna, a cat recently adopted from SPCA).
Hershey has recently been diagnosed by Dr. Carlos Souza at the Animal Cancer and Referral Center with Apocrine Gland Anal Sac Carcinoma. His tumor is small now, and if operated on quickly, can be a likely cure. The area of the anal sac is very nerve filled and must be done by a veterinary cancer specialist so as not to cause incontinence and to be sure to remove all of the cancer.
Hershey is a pretty boy that charms us with his sweet smile and pretty "hairdo". Always a lap hog, he mimics a circus dog and begs/walks on his hind legs for treats. He's always a lover, and still a lively puppy at heart, always being the first to grab a toy and get the zoomies around the house when playing with our family. Quiet in nature unless he's chasing a squirrel or scolding the wind.
I was laid off last summer due to mass corporate layoffs & have struggled to secure new employment. Vet costs have already been over $2500 & the surgery to remove the cancer is expected to be $5500. He deserves this chance to live a long, healthy life surrounded our family.
