After bugging my husband about getting a puppy, he finally relented. We went to the shelter to look. When we took this one out of the cage, all she did was kiss and snuggle with me. We knew she was the perfect choice. She’s been “my” dog since that day. She sleeps with me, loves on me, follows me. She’s my shadow, day and night. She’s also my protector, keeping me safe, physically and emotionally.

Holly not only loves me, but she adores our entire family. She’s the first to greet you at the door, with her “friend .” She wants you to play, “Nom nom” with her. You take her friend, hold it to your mouth and say, “nom nom.” Then, toss it for her to retrieve. She also loves to give kisses and get belly rubs in return. She really likes her humans. She’s also great friends with her little sisters.

Holly has the biggest smile of any dog I’ve ever seen. You can definitely tell when she’s happy. One of the things she loves to do is suntan outside. She lays on our stoop and sucks up the rays. Then she comes in and wants you to feel, and comment on, her suntanning. She’s just the best dog. She’s kind and loving, caring and playful, sweet and friendly. She makes our house more of a home.

Holly started limping a few weeks ago. We took her to Vanguard Vet and after x-rays, we were told she has a mass and arthritis. The mass is on her left knee and the arthritis along her back. The mass will likely continue to grow and impede upon her walking without surgical intervention. The arthritis will require lifelong medication. Without surgery, she will quit walking and thriving.

The company my husband has worked for the past 35 years, closed its doors a week ago. He has no job at the moment. I’m on SS disability. We’re really struggling at the moment. Holly means everything to me and I can’t imagine life without her. She’s such a staple in our lives
