Hondo is a 12-year-old English Shepherd in Basalt, CO, who needs $300 for Panus Treatments.

Hondo, named after the great John Wayne character, arrived into my life back in 2008. He was a rescue from what turned out to be an English Shepherd puppy mill in Montana. He spent his 1st few years running the endless beaches of Monterey, and since has been home on the ranch here near Aspen, Co, aside from a few jaunts east to help family. Hondo has the LIFE! He lives here in this old log cabin, on a ranch near Aspen. He's got free reign here, and acts as the patriarch of a small herd of assorted pups and kitties the ranchmates have collected. He keeps a close eye on the horses, when he's not snoozing or wading in the creek! When I travel for work in the music biz, he stays with a lovely family nearby. He's a couch sleeper!

I am a professional live event producer and touring concert video director, out of work for most of the the past year and the foreseeable due to the pandemic. Having some help with Hondo's checkups and medications would be a real blessing until I can get back to work.

Hondo has Panus - an autoimmune disease of the eyes that seems to occur in shepherds. His eyes get red, cloudy (surely itchy and hard to see through) and require quite a barrage of daily meds. Prednisone, Cyclosporine drops 2x per eye, 2x per day. Plus he has hypothyroidism, which requires a prescribed pill daily. Dr. Ben Macklin, Carbondale Animal Hosp. has taken great care of my boy for years.

Hondo could qualify as a service dog, we are convinced. He has something special about the way he sticks by and checks in on anyone stressed or suffering. I long ago realized that sometimes he is needed by others and often lend him to friends and family in tough times as he just has that thing that lifts the spirits. It's like he is empathy, personifed? Squeak a dog toy, he licks his lips.
