An ER clinic we use often called us last night asking if we could take over this baby’s care. Her name is Honey and she is very sweet 7 year old Pit mix. A young child in the home placed a rubber-band on her neck that went unnoticed for an extended amount of time which resulted in a deep wound.

She was surrendered over to our care and hospitalized at the ER to get the care she needs. Her wound was infected but there wasn’t a lot of dead tissue to be debrided. There was plenty of extra skin to close it, so it was cleaned really well, flushed out, and closed over a drain. She was discharged from the ER and is now in foster care, but has upcoming appointments to recheck wound progress.

What we’ve learned about her so far: she doesn’t have a mean bone in her body but she is petrified of everything. She shivers and shakes at the sight of people. She prefers to be in her kennel. She is quite terrified of men. She has yet to untuck her tail. She has a lot of recovering and decompressing to do, but she’s got a very patient foster family who adores her already.

She has a long way to go but in time, she will heal and start her new life. We cannot continue to help dogs like Honey without your support. Please consider donating!

Update 9/26/24:
Honey had surgery to close up the wound and it has healed beautifully. We don’t know what she’s been through during her life, but she is a terrified girl. She’s going to take longer to heal emotionally than she took to physically heal, but she’s in a loving foster home that has a whole lot of patience. Honey is slowly learning to trust and we hope in the near future she realizes she's safe.
