About this campaign

Hoyt came into our lives as a rescue veteran support dog for my brother-in-law. He did two tours in Iraq and now is home working as a police officer. We have spent the last year and a half displaced from our home due to a house fire. We are currently living in a rental house with a broken fence due to a tree having fallen on it soon after we arrived. This has made for tough living.

Hoyt was found in a home abandoned and locked in a room at about age 1. He was trained as a veterans support dog for my brother-in-law, but it is clear he often has much of his own anxiety. Especially with being left alone. He is a protector of our children and very quickly bonded with my youngest daughter who he adores. Hoyt love to be with people and will follow our every movement.

Hoyt is a rare Weimaraner in that he still has his tail and that he hates water. Typically their tails are cropped for many reasons we now understand as owners…. It is painful when it hits you and painful for him when he hits it. It is equivalent to a whip. He has damaged it often as of recent and it won’t heal. His fear of water we are guessing stems from previous abuse:(

We have been back and forth with our veterinarian as well as trying to wrap his tail at home. It is now going on three years later we have to make the difficult decision based on recommendations from his vet to have the tail removed. We are afraid this will be very painful at this time but also are struggling with cost bc of our situation with our home and the previous fire.

We are a family of 6, three adults and 3 children, Hoyt and 1 cat. The past year and a half has been beyond stressful for our family and the cost of one more thing is excruciating as well as the thought of what he will have to go thru.
